Ryugukutsu
Ryugukutsu, a cave featuring a skylight with a diameter of about 50 meters, is the most beautiful sightseeing spot in Shimoda. You can watch beautiful sea and beautiful nature on the same time. There is a heart-shaped skylight where is said to bring good luck to couples.

In Shimoda, volcanic deposits from ancient undersea volcanoes are widely distributed. These beautiful rock layers, which emerged after the area rose from the sea following the undersea volcanic era, create the scenery of Shimoda.
Access to Shirahama Beach
Nearest Station: Izukyu-Shimoda Station (Izukyu Line)
By Bus: Take the Tokai Bus from the station and get off at "Shirahama Jinja" (for the Shrine/Torii gate) or "Shirahama Kaigan" (for the beach).
Duration: Approx. 15 minutes.
Shirahama beach
There is beach where is no exaggeration to call it the most beautiful in Shimoda. If you walk around there, your eyes must be glued to this beautiful sea. In summer, it is bustling with surfers and beachgoers, and you can also swim in the beautiful sea.
Access to Ryugukutsu Sea Cave
Nearest Station: Izukyu-Shimoda Station (Izukyu Line)
By Bus: Take the Tokai Bus from the station bound for "Tagano" or "Irizaki" and get off at the "Ryugukutsu" bus stop.
Duration: Approx. 15 minutes.
After Alighting: It’s just a 1-minute walk from the bus stop to the cave.
